Charleston, SC — Nearly half of the adults in the United States have at least one major risk factor for heart disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon James Benner, MD says with an aging population, and an increasingly sedentary adult population, healthcare providers need to increase access to health education. “Heart health is one of the basics for overall health, but too many people wait until it’s too late to make the changes they need to avoid serious problems,” explained Dr. Benner, Palmetto Cardiovascular and Thoracic Associates. Toward the goal of health education, Trident Medical Center is hosting a series of seminars and screenings in February as part of national Heart Month activities.
