Charleston, S.C. —Trident Medical Center announces Jennie Kellams, MSN, RN, CCRN, TCRN as its new Director of Trauma Services.
Kellams has served in a variety of critical care leadership roles at both Level 1 and Level 2 trauma centers during her 20-year career as a nurse. She has worked in Trident's Trauma Department for the past three years, first as the department’s performance review manager.
“About 20 years ago I decided to become a nurse because I was involved in an accident,” said Kellams. “As a patient, I had a very difficult experience, and I didn’t feel like my care team was excellent. I felt like they really didn’t care. I wanted to become a nurse because I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to be that nurse that made a difference in someone’s life.”
Prior to her promotion, she was serving as the interim director of Trident Medical Center’s Trauma Department. In that time, she led the department through its third three-year reverification review by the American College of Surgeons, in which surveyors found no deficiencies.
Last year, Trident Medical Center's provided trauma care to nearly 2,500 patients - a record for the program. More patients receive trauma care at Trident Medical Center than at any other trauma center in the Charleston, S.C. region. In the past five years, the hospital has treated more 11,000 trauma patients.
Jennie earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from Austin Peay State University in TN and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Union University in TN.
