Charleston, SC - Trident Health is proud to announce plans for the expansion of Trident Cancer Center. The preliminary design calls for an extensive renovation to the current facility, located at Trident Medical Center, and an expansion of more than 3,500 square feet. The total project cost is estimated to be $6.1 million and construction is set to begin later this fall.
The most significant upgrade will be the addition of the Charleston area’s first TrueBeam Linear Accelerator, a product of Varian Medical Systems. This state-of-the-art radiotherapy technology aims to destroy cancer with treatments that last just a few minutes a day. Although traditional radiation therapy machines offer great quality treatment, TrueBeam technology decreases treatment times to almost half with a more effective and precise treatment delivery method. "Having all of this new technology available in one area will provide easy access to advanced cancer treatment services for our patients,” said Ryan Clements, Trident Cancer Center Director.
The project will also include upgrades to treatment planning software and additional aesthetic improvements. “We had a vision to provide the very best cancer fighting technology close by for our community. We are pleased to make that vision a reality,” said Terence van Arkel, Trident Medical Center’s Chief Operating Officer. Mindful consideration is being used in the design and planning in order to prevent disruption to patients during construction.
