The Advanced Wound Care Centers at Trident and Summerville Medical Centers have each earned a clinical hyperbaric medicine facility accreditation demonstrating their commitment to patient care and facility safety. This voluntary accreditation indicates Trident Health's high performance standards in general and hyperbaric medicine programs. The announcement comes in conjunction with National Wound Care Awareness Week, which is June 1-5.

The accreditation is administered by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), an international, non-profit organization that serves as the authority on determining which indications are approved for the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO).

When treated with hyperbaric medicine, patients receive high concentrations of 100 percent oxygen into the bloodstream, which assists in the healing process of wounds and is effective in fighting certain types of infections. HBO also helps to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, which can improve circulation and wound healing. The treatment involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized tube or oxygen chamber and treats wounds that result from a number of conditions, including:

  • Diabetic Wounds
  • Pressure Ulcers
  • Venous Stasis Ulcers
  • Vascular Ulcers
  • Non-Healing Surgical Wounds
  • Complex Soft Tissue Wounds
  • Traumatic Wounds
  • Infected Wounds
  • Chronic Wounds

Trident Health's Advanced Wound Care Centers provide patients who have chronic wounds, faster and healthier healing options. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm at two locations: Summerville Medical Center, 105 Burton Ave., and Trident Medical Center, 9302 Medical Plaza Dr., Suite A.
