Family and Friend Instructions
Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness offers a supportive and safe environment for your loved one to receive effective and short‐term treatment. We are committed to helping with their recovery and a quick return to family, friends and activities.
Their treatment team (Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Recreational Therapists, and Technicians) will work together to care for your loved one. When they arrive on the unit your belongings will be inventoried and placed in a locker. They will be introduced to their room and to other patients and staff on the unit. At admission they are placed on a “Confidential” status. They will sign a Consent for Release of Information form, which allows for our staff to interact with family, friends, counselors, therapists, doctors, community agencies, etc. that they have worked with before or with new resources that can assist you when you leave the hospital.
The 4-digit privacy code will be given out by the patient to anyone who they want to visit or call you (Main Line #: (843) 797-4200). When people call or arrive to visit, they will need to present that code. This informs the staff that they have authorized that person to call or to visit.
Throughout their stay we want them to feel free to ask any staff member any questions they may have. Important things to know:
- Patients are encouraged to wear their own clean and appropriate clothing. They are permitted to wear shoes (no shoestrings) or slippers if safe but otherwise for safety skid proof socks will be provided.
- The phone and television will be turned off during group times and between the hours of 10:00pm and 6:00am.
- Personal Hygiene and shower times are twice daily: 7:00am - 9:30am and 7:00pm - 9:30pm. Patients will be provided hygiene items including a fresh towel and washcloth daily. We also have basic hygiene items. These items will be collected after hygiene hours and stored in a locked closet.
- Food items brought in from the outside are not permitted. We ask that the nurse is notified if a patient has a special dietary need or restrictions. All meals and snacks are served in the dining room. We do not allow food in any of the patient rooms.
- Patients will be given menu options each morning for the next day.
- Bedroom doors must remain open at all times unless the staff has otherwise given permission. During daytime hours, room lights are left on. This is in an effort to promote wellness progress and encourage group attendance.
- Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness is a NON-SMOKING facility. We have Nicotine patches or Nicotine gum available to help.
