Types of bariatric surgeries we offer
Weight loss surgeries change the anatomy of the stomach and intestines, restricting the amount of food your stomach can hold. This results in a decrease of appetite and an increased metabolism.
At our hospital, our weight loss surgeons offer several bariatric surgeries, including:
- Gastric band surgery — During this procedure, an adjustable balloon is implanted around the top of the stomach to control how much you can eat at one time and the rate that food empties.
- Gastric sleeve — Also known as sleeve gastrectomy; during this surgery, your stomach is reduced by over half of its original size, resembling a narrow sleeve. Reducing the size of your stomach minimizes hunger and helps restrict calories. No medical device is implanted during the procedure.
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery — This surgery reduces the size of your stomach and directly connects it to the small intestine, bypassing the parts of the digestive tract that absorb calories and nutrients.
