Green is the International Color for Mental Health Awareness
Charleston, SC - Green is the international color for mental health awareness and September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. In recognition of residents in South Carolina's Lowcountry who are fighting mental health disease and those who care for them Trident Medical Center turned its lights green. According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control every day in South Carolina two people die by suicide.
The new national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, 9-8-8, is a much needed resource, according to Trident Medical Center psychiatrist Dr. Harish Mangipudi, “Mental health is a significant disease here in the Lowcountry and nationally. The need for care is greater than available resources. The new National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, 9-8-8, provides quick access to help for people who are having suicidal thoughts.”
More help is on the way from Trident Medical Center. Construction continues on its new 60-bed freestanding behavioral health hospital, Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness. The hospital is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2023 and will provide inpatient and outpatient services for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
